A successful history
Established in 1951, ILTE has left an important mark on the evolution of the graphic arts sector.
In 1961, ILTE installed its first rotogravure rotary press, while in 1968 it conceived the world's first totally photocomposed telephone directory. The year 1976 then marked the beginning of the electronic engraving of rotogravure cylinders, which was replaced by digital engraving in 1994.
In 1981, ILTE was the first company in Italy to introduce the digital processing of images, thanks to the acquisition of Hell-Chromacron machines. Furthermore, the installation of the first Cerutti 308 rotary press in 1989 represented another important stage in the firm's technological development.
The privatisation of ILTE began in 1995, and in 1998, Vittorio Farina, an entrepreneur with more than twenty years experience in the graphics sector, became the principal shareholder. He immediately set about restructuring and modernising the company, with an agenda that involved exploring new technologies, speeding up printing processes, maintaining extremely high qualitative standards and diversifying production procedures.
As a result, ILTE, invested in new machinery and extended its range of products by starting to print periodicals and newspaper supplements. Moreover, with the launch of the new offset rotary "Sunday Press" in 1996, Ilte became the first company to introduce four-colour printing of telephone directories on such a large scale.
The year 2000 marked another important stage in the company's technical revolution; with its vast experience of digital data processing and its newly-acquired technological and web design expertise, it decided to accept the challenge offered by the Internet, with the creation of Ilte.net.
ILTE's work takes places at its premises in Moncalieri (Torino), which, with a surface area of 300,000 square metres, is the largest printing plant in Italy. |
